Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson born to British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby & Chris Watson in Paris, France. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma was enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma was six years old at the time she decided to be an actor. She trained for several years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford in which she learned acting and singing. At the age of 10 Emma was already taking part in multiple Stagecoach productions as well as school productions. Casting began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was found by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. After a string of auditions for eight consecutive times, producers David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint they were cast for the roles of three of the leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut on the big screen in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that was released in the year 2001. The film set records for opening day and weekend revenue, making it the most successful 2001 film. The film received praise from experts, as was the performances of its three new stars. The widely distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Emma took home the Young Artist Award as the leading young actress in a Feature Film. Emma was nominated for five awards for her work in the film.
